Our poor Phillies. One of the worst things about the Phillies losing is that Charlie Manuel actually looks angry. Poor Cholly. I’m personally taking a glass half full approach; tickets will be cheap and available, which means I can have a Tony Luke’s cheesesteak at the ballpark in the foreseeable future. I’ve got my priorities.

At TPD, while we’re dreaming up beautiful invitations and paper goods, we’re also an office full of Philadelphia sports fans, and the Phillies are probably the closest to our hearts. Our awesome  web design team (also disgruntled Phillies fans) crafted this Phillies Mood-O-Meter, which tracks Phillies related tweets and assesses the sentiments of Phillies tweeters daily. The Mood-O-Meter determines mood on a scale from 0-100, 0 being pretty bad, and 100 being the 2008 World Series or Roy Halladay’s perfect game.

Coming off a series of disappointing games, most notably the recent Mets series, the creation of a Mood-O-Meter is a great way to assess the current outlook of Phillies fans, helping you become one of the angry masses or  jump on the winning bandwagon (hopefully).

We know it won’t make up for the slump, but this is pretty awesome, right?

As an arts & crafts lover, I’m especially excited for Art Star Craft Bazaar this weekend at Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing. On Saturday and Sunday, head down to The Great Plaza for afternoons full of cool, original art, jewelry, handmade treasures, live music, and inspiration. We’ll be stationed at our booth from 11AM-6PM both days where you can score some of our threads, prints, clocks and other letterpressed goodies that were dreamed up, designed and produced in our Wayne studio.

Instead of your average geranium and ivy, opt for the trailing vine of a cucumber plant and offset it with a tall rosemary bush or a tomato plant.

Probably my favorite (and FREE) tool from BH&G.  Use this interactive tool to help you plan container pots or a full backyard. It helped me start a plan for my very own garden and container plants. My favorite design is mixing perennials and herbs together.

So this year I would like to challenge my fellow sports-lover-designers to step up to the plate. Let’s no longer ignore the aesthetic difficulties of our fellow fans. I challenge us to create beautiful presentations, that capture the emotion, sweat and comradery of these great pastimes that we love.

And in the spirit of competition, send us your before and after screen shots. We will post the results and send the best redesign a Rivalry and Pretzel Tee from our store.
